Principal's Message

Dear Oso Grande Elementary School Students, Parents, and Staff,

It is with great pleasure and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed principal of Oso Grande Elementary School. My name is Shannon Cheatley, and it is truly an honor and a privilege to be a part of the Oso Grande community. I look forward to continuing the traditions and work that make Oso Grande Elementary School a special place for all students to learn and grow socially and academically.
I come to you with 30 years of experience as an educator. I spent 21 years as a classroom teacher in grades K-5, and 9 years as an administrator in the Capistrano Unified School District, serving as a Teaching Assistant Principal II, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Director of Instruction and Interventions. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies in 1991 and my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in 1992 from San Diego State University. In addition, I earned my Bilingual, Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development Certificate (BCLAD) in Spanish in 1998, and I have a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration.
I am very devoted and dedicated to ensuring that all children in our community reach their full potential academically, social-emotionally, and behaviorally. I believe whole-heartedly that every child deserves the highest quality education and that this occurs when the school and families work together to provide a nurturing environment with systematically designed learning experiences for all children. I am extremely passionate about teaching and learning, and I have an unwavering commitment to provide the highest quality education for all students.
I am truly honored to be given this opportunity and am very eager to immerse myself completely in our school and our community. As an experienced educator, I understand the importance of a positive school culture, which is created by building strong relationships with staff, students, parents, and community partners. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you in the upcoming days. Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions, concerns, or ideas that you would like to share. Collaborating together as a team, we will provide our children with excellence in education.

Shannon Cheatley
